When working with students, what is discussed in conversation is considered to be confidential. The only time the Social Worker will disclose what has been discussed is:
- If the student is threatening/planning to hurt themselves or others
- If the student shares they or someone else is in danger of being hurt
- If the student permits me to repeat what they shared with me
Social Work sessions will remain confidential except when certain legal restrictions arise and confidentiality cannot be maintained. These cases include, but are not limited to, child abuse, danger to oneself, danger to others, and illegal words/actions.
All students enrolled at Harvard Elementary School are automatically opted in to receive social work services due to the student being enrolled in HISD and the social worker is an HISD employee. This includes telemental health services, which is the practice of delivering clinical health care services via technology-assisted media or other electronic means between a practitioner and a client who are located in two different locations.
In the case that a parent does not want their child to be seen by the social worker, a form must be signed by both the parent and the social worker.
