Welcome to our website, and thank you for your interest in Garden Oaks Montessori! Garden Oaks Montessori is a unique gem within HISD--we are proud of our Montessori programming, our strong community, and our beautiful campus, which allows us to focus on nature and environmental sciences. We invite you to tour our campus during our weekly magnet tours. You will get to peek inside of authentic Montessori classrooms, view our chicken coop, and watch students as they get their hands dirty in one of our many gardens or our nature pond. For those of you who are new to Montessori, I encourage you to explore the links on this page for an introduction; Montessori education is a child-centered approach, involving specially-designed materials and a great deal of student choice and independence. Students learn to become self-motivated, peaceful, and respectful of themselves, their peers, and their environment. We are honored to provide a Montessori education right here in HISD. Enjoy our website, and please reach out if you have further questions!
You might have noticed that earlier this year the Pocket Prairie was cut down. This human-made action was to simulate a “disruption,” which happens to prairies in nature.
Montessori classrooms have a tradition of hosting tea parties, where students bond as a community while learning about the custom of tea, as well as grace, courtesy, and manners.

While February is important because it provides a fresh reminder of the importance of Black history, we also know that Black history is American history. Here is just a sampling of the ways that we are recognizing Black history this month:
We are excited to announce the winners of our spelling bees this year! Yusuf Ahmed won the elementary spelling bee and his older sister, Layan Ahmed, won the middle school bee.
Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this lion dance performance on Friday, January 20. Students in all grade levels learned about the significance of the Lunar New Year and appreciated the artistry of the lion dancers.
