Physical and Health Education
-
The Ortiz physical and health education program encompasses fitness, health, dance, and sports. Our facility includes a gymnasium, boys' and girls' locker rooms, a fitness center, an outdoor track, tennis courts, a dance studio, an outdoor basketball court, and a football/soccer field. Eagle athletes are able to compete in UIL competitions in football, volleyball, basketball, and track.
In addition, our students participate in the FitnessGram program, which measures their fitness through various exercises, and helps students set goals to improve their endurance and performance. Our coaches emphasize the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and plan lessons for students that encourage participation and team-building.
Note to parents/guardians: Dressing out is an important component of our PE program. Students may not be allowed to participate in daily activities if they do not dress out. PE uniforms can be purchased by students for $25 which includes an Ortiz PE shirt and shorts. Shirts may be purchased separately for $15 each. Not dressing out will result in lower grades for non-participation. Feel free to contact your child's coach with any questions or concerns.
