INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMME
-
Daniel Ortiz Jr., Middle School is now an International Baccalaureate World School for the Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). IB schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that we believe is important for our students. This means that, in addition to adhering to state and district curricula, we also incorporate the IB curriculum into all of our classrooms. The IB MYP is a 5-year program. The first 3 years of the program are here at Ortiz, with the final two years offered at the high school level. HISD has numerous high schools that offer years 4 and 5 of the MYP, as well as the Diploma Programme (DP) for grades 11 and 12. Students who graduate high school with an IB DP diploma can enter university with 24-52 hours of college credit.
Ortiz's IB MYP is designed to build a framework for students to be able to succeed in the IB continuum. We focus on the IB Learner Profile to encourage our students to be life-long learners, global contexts to enhance perspective within students' learning, and criterion-based assessment in the form of subject-specific rubrics. Our goal as an IB school is to cultivate internationally-minded students who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.Further information about IB and its programmes is available at the following:Visit http://www.ibo.org.Ortiz IB Programme Contact Information:Olivia Holub, IB MYP Coordinator713-845-5650
