• Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We look forward to planning your child’s school career at Horn ES. Our meet the teacher event will take place on Thursday, August 8th. For grades Pre-K & Kindergarten, the event will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. For second through fifth grades, the Meet the Teacher event will start at 9:00 a.m. in the classrooms. The early bird market will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Families with NEW students and parents in first through fifth grades will have a brief presentation in the library at 9:30 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to sign up to volunteer, learn about PTO Committees and how to get involved, discover our after-school program, community offerings, and much more! The market will be cashless, so please bring a credit or debit card to pay for uniforms, dress-down bands, and more! Please consider joining our PTO as it provides many opportunities for parents to get involved with their child’s school activities. Parents will receive an e-mail from their child’s new teacher on August 7, 2024. The school day will begin on August 12, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. Please ensure that your child attends Horn on the first day of school, or their spot can be given to the next student on the waitlist if capping occurs from the district level. Remember, due to the safety and security of the campus, you will not walk students to their classrooms during the school year.

Regular attendance is a key factor in your child's academic progress. School starts at 7:30 a.m. daily; breakfast, at no cost, is available starting at 7:20 a.m. This year, we will begin instruction and announcements at 7:30 a.m. Students can grab it and go to class as they enter school. Your child is tardy starting at 7:41 a.m. and will need a permit to go to class. Excused absences include student illness, family illness or death, dangerous weather conditions, quarantine, student participation in Principal-approved school-related activities, or emergencies. However, based on the Texas attendance policy, it does not matter if your child is excused or unexcused. Any absence, regardless of the situation, will count as an absence. For purposes of remedial support and/or retention, it does not matter whether it is an excused or unexcused absence. Attendance matters and we need your child here each and every day. Attendance is tied to funding.

Horn ES begins dismissal at 2:50 p.m. and ends promptly at 3:05 p.m. Please pick up no later than 3:05 p.m., as the front office staff leaves promptly after dismissal. In support of our commitment to excellence in education, we invite you to be a partner in your child’s learning by meeting your child’s teacher again during our Open House and PTO meeting on the evening of September 28th. This is a valuable opportunity for you to engage with your child's education. More information will be given closer to the event.

We have several exciting activities coming up soon, so please remember to follow us on Facebook and Twitter and check your e-mails from PTO and Horn ES to stay connected.

Please don’t forget to check out our website for traffic flow maps and other essential pieces of information. We look forward to providing a productive and safe learning environment and seeing our Horn Cardinals very soon!

    Sincerely,

    Vanessa Flores, Principal
