• The lottery results are in and I have questions. Where can I find answers?

The HISD Office of School Choice processes all applications for the Travis ES Vanguard Program.  Their website offers a comprehensive Q&A for information regarding siblings, lottery priority, next steps if you did not get your school choice and more.  Click here to stay informed.

    • How will I know if my child has been accepted?

Letters stating the status of your student’s application will be mailed on notification day if you submitted a paper application. If you applied online, you will receive an email notification. Parents can view the status of the application on the parent dashboard at any time. If you need help logging into the school choice application, contact: schoolchoice@houstonisd.org.

    • My child was offered a seat on April 5th. What are my next steps?

Congratulations! It is recommended that you accept your seat through the school choice system as soon as possible.  You have 14 calendar days from April 5, 2023 to accept the seat offer (April 19, 2023).  Once a seat expires, it cannot be reinstated.

    • I received notice that my child is on the waitlist. What does this mean?

Wait listed seats are processed in the order that they are listed in the lottery as space becomes available.  We will begin processing waitlisted vanguard seats as soon as a space becomes available.

It is recommended that you accept the seat offered by your first choice school.  Accepting a seat will not affect your status on the Travis ES Vanguard waitlist.

    • My child has been offered a seat from the waitlist. How long do I have to make a decision?

If your child is on the waitlist and you have been offered a seat from the waitlist, you have 5 calendar days to accept the seat.  Example: If you are offered a seat on April 10, 2023, the deadline to accept the seat is April 15, 2023.

    • My child did not qualify for the Gifted and Talented Program. Is there room for siblings?

The sibling hardship application window opens on April 5, 2023.  The goal is to keep families together at Travis, sibling hardship notifications can be processed as late as Mid August, based on space availability.  Families can complete the hardship application during the Phase 2 application window. Click here to learn more about sibling requests from the office of school choice.

    • My child is marked ineligible. What does this mean?

In order to qualify for the Vanguard program, students must: qualify as Gifted and Talented (GT) within HISD.  An ineligible designation means that the gifted and talented threshold was not met.

    • How can I receive a copy of my child's GT test results?

Requests for gifted and talented test results are processed in the order received. The GT matrix request window will open on April 6, 2023. Families may stop by the Travis ES front desk between the hours of 7:15am - 3:30pm.  Parents must provide picture identification to pick up results.
