How will I know if my child has been accepted?
Letters stating the status of your student’s application will be mailed on notification day if you submitted a paper application. If you applied online, you will receive an email notification. Parents can view the status of the application on the parent dashboard at any time. If you need help logging into the school choice application, contact: schoolchoice@houstonisd.org.

My child was offered a seat on April 5th. What are my next steps?
Congratulations! It is recommended that you accept your seat through the school choice system as soon as possible. You have 14 calendar days from April 5, 2023 to accept the seat offer (April 19, 2023). Once a seat expires, it cannot be reinstated.

My child was offered a seat. When does registration begin for Vanguard Magnet students?
How to Register: Download the 2023 -24 registration application and supporting documentation below. All necessary registration forms need to be completed in advance, printed and dropped off at our campus with the required documentation listed below. If you have any questions about registration, please contact Mayte Sanchez at msanch45@houstonisd.org.
- Current Immunization Record
- Child's Birth Certificate (original-we will make a copy)
- Social security card for each child, if available
- Proof of residency: A current utility bill OR lease/rental contract or mortgage documentation
- A government issued photo ID for the child's parent/legal guardian
- Report card or transcript from the child's last school.

I received notice that my child is on the waitlist. What does this mean?
Wait listed seats are processed in the order that they are listed in the lottery as space becomes available. We will begin processing waitlisted vanguard seats as soon as a space becomes available.
It is recommended that you accept the seat offered by your first choice school. Accepting a seat will not affect your status on the Travis ES Vanguard waitlist.

My child has been offered a seat from the waitlist. How long do I have to make a decision?
If your child is on the waitlist and you have been offered a seat from the waitlist, you have 5 calendar days to accept the seat. Example: If you are offered a seat on April 10, 2023, the deadline to accept the seat is April 15, 2023.

My child did not qualify for the Gifted and Talented Program. Is there room for siblings?
The sibling hardship application window opens on April 5, 2023. The goal is to keep families together at Travis, sibling hardship notifications can be processed as late as Mid August, based on space availability. Families can complete the hardship application during the Phase 2 application window. Click here to learn more about sibling requests from the office of school choice.

My child is marked ineligible. What does this mean?
In order to qualify for the Vanguard program, students must: qualify as Gifted and Talented (GT) within HISD. An ineligible designation means that the gifted and talented threshold was not met.

How can I receive a copy of my child's GT test results?
Requests for gifted and talented test results are processed in the order received. The GT matrix request window will open on April 6, 2023. Families may stop by the Travis ES front desk between the hours of 7:15am - 3:30pm. Parents must provide picture identification to pick up results.
Entering Kindergarten: Travis ES maintains records for Entering Kindergarten students who selected Travis as their first choice in the School Choice Application. Email Crystal Pineda at crystal.pineda@houstonisd.org to request a copy of your child's GT Matrix.
Students Zoned for Travis: 1st - 5th: Results will be sent home via your child's homeroom teacher in mid April.
Non Zoned Zoned Students: Please contact your zoned school for a copy of your child's GT Matrix.
Out of District Students: Please contact the HISD GT department: giftedandtalented@houstonisd.org.
