Ms. Melanie Martinez

Ms. Martinez graduated from the University of Houston with a B.A in Public Relations. Prior to beginning her career in education, Ms. Martinez worked for communication agencies serving the public in many capacities. She joined HISD as a parent liaison where she exercised her passion for the community.  Since then, Ms. Martinez has taught public speaking at the middle school level. In her capacity as a teacher, she taught and made enduring relationships with her students. She is the co-founder of the D.C. Scholars, which grants students scholarships to travel and study our nation’s rich history. In addition to the program, Ms. Martinez and her 2012 8th grade class founded a food pantry that served the community and the student body. She also serves as Secretary of the Jack Valenti School of Communication Alumni Association where she assists in fundraising and providing scholarships for undergraduate students. She has dedicated herself to serving the greater community and providing students attainable opportunities.
