Did the student attend any HISD school since August 2018? Then the HISD campus that they attended most recently is responsible for their records. This is true whether the student has graduated, withdrawn, or moved elsewhere in Texas.

Did the student attend any Houston ISD campus before August 2018? In fall 2022, the District moved to an online-only system for these requests. • HOUSE BILL 114:

      HB114

We would like to notify you of an important new policy change that has been passed by the 88th Texas Legislature and will be taking effect immediately in our district for September 1st, 2023.

House Bill 114 (HB 114) has been enacted to respond to the increasing concerns around e-cigarettes, vaping, marijuana, and THC related products amongst our youth. The Bill mandates that any student found in possession of, under the influence of, selling, gifting, or delivering these substances within a 300-feet radius of any school premises, will be immediately removed, and placed in a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).

You can access the full version of the Bill here: https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/88R/billtext/pdf/HB00114F.pdf

Please discuss the implications of this new law with your children, emphasizing the importance of adhering to school policies and laws for their own educational success and for the betterment of the school community.

Your cooperation and support in ensuring that Houston remains a safe and healthy educational environment for our students and staff is appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns about this new policy, please contact your child’s campus principal.

      Friendly Reminder: 8/30/2023

    • Return the signed Technology agreement form to receive your student laptop.
    • See Ms. Garza to submit any documents related to registration.
    • Visit the campus dress code policy on the website.  Send Principal Orozco or Counselor Thomas a message on TEAMS for support.
    • If you are requesting a schedule change, see the message from Counselor Thomas on grade level TEAMS channel.

Jones Futures Academy: 8/27/23 Welcome BACK Mighty Falcons,

As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year, we extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to both our returning students and those joining our school community for the first time. Your partnership and enthusiasm are invaluable to us, and we are excited about embarking on this journey together.

Jones Futures Academy is more than just a place of learning; it is a vibrant and diverse community that thrives on collaboration, creativity, and growth. We believe that education is a shared endeavor that involves students, families, educators, and staff working together to create an environment conducive to learning and personal development.

For new families, we understand that transitioning to a new school can be both exciting and challenging. Rest assured, our dedicated team is here to support you every step of the way. Whether it's through parent-teacher meetings, or open houses, we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and providing you with the resources you need to become active participants in our school community.

To our returning students, welcome back! Your enthusiasm for learning, your achievements, and your positive contributions to our school community continue to inspire us. We are eager to see you continue to flourish and reach new heights in the coming year.

As we look ahead to the academic year, we want to highlight a few key points:

We are excited to welcome you to another year of growth, discovery, and achievement. Together, we will create a learning environment where students feel empowered to explore, question, and innovate.Together we can, whatever it takes, NO EXCUSES!

    First Day:

Upon arrival, report to the cafeteria to pick up breakfast. The assigned locations are as follows: 9th and 10th grade remain in the cafeteria for breakfast.  11th and 12th grade report to grades.

All students will be released from the designated areas to report to Advocacy.  During advocacy, the students scheduled will be distributed by the advocacy teacher.  Review the posting in alphabetical order by grade level for the assigned advocacy teacher and classroom to report to.

Families are able to review the schedules for Power Schools.  Students are highly encouraged to review the Grade Level TEAMS channel on a daily basis for grade specific initiatives, information etc.

    Policy and Procedures:

    Cell Phone Policy:

    1. Student use of mobile phones during the school day (Board Policy FNCE; HISD 23-24 Student Code of Conduct As is current policy, student cell-phone use will not be allowed in HISD schools during the academic day.  Student use of phones during the academic day disrupts learning and instruction, fuels disputes between students, and undermines the culture we are working to create in all HISD campuses. Students must leave their cell phones at home or in their backpacks. Should a teacher or administrator see a cell phone on a student’s person (even if it is in a pocket, but visible) or being used by a student, the teacher or administrator will:
    1. Ask the student to hand over the mobile phone.
    2. Put the student’s name on the phone (as with a sticky note), and
    3. Take it to the office or give it to a learning coach or teacher apprentice to take to the office.

The first time a student has a mobile phone taken to the office, that student may pick up the cell phone from the front office after school.  If a student violates this rule a second time, the cell phone will be returned to a parent or guardian who must come to the school to retrieve it.

    2. Transportation Update (HISD Transportation Website)

HISD is starting off the 2023-2024 school year with 517 bus routes.  All routes are staffed. Transportation and operations worked hard to ensure the district has enough bus drivers and to allow busses to arrive at the stops as scheduled and to drop off students at school on time.

Since routes and ridership are determined by the students who sign up for transportation and show up at the bus stops the first few weeks of school, student ridership will increase in the early weeks of school.

Over the next three weeks, there will be adjustments to routes and bus stops as we accommodate the students who sign up for transportation after the first day of school. In some cases, two routes may need to be consolidated into one to accommodate all students while we work to hire additional drivers.

HISD will inform impacted families directly about any change to their route, but principals should make families aware of this possibility and remind them to look out for calls and emails about their child’s bus route throughout the month of September.

    4. Academic Calendar Changes (2023-2024 Academic Calendar)
