WELCOME TO FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT
-
The objective of the Fine Arts Department is to furnish students with the requisite knowledge and aptitudes essential for cognitive, creative, and social development, alongside the attainment of technical proficiencies. By means of artistic disciplines, we aim to equip students for the demands of the 21st century.
The Fine Arts Department has facilitated the participation of its students in prominent competitions such as the Mayor's Art Scholarship Houston, Doodle for Google, and the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's School Art Program. The Fine Arts program caters to dedicated and highly motivated students enrolled in Art 1 and Art 2.

Hector Garcia - Art Teacher
Hey Panthers,
Welcome to the Visual Arts department. I'm the Visual Art teacher at South Early College.
Allow me to provide you with some background information about myself: I was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Notably, I am the sole faculty member at this campus who has graduated from an Early College institution, namely Challenge Early College. Furthermore, I hold two undergraduate degrees from the University of Houston, encompassing a BA in History and a BA in Art History.
My tenure with HISD commenced in the fall of 2011, and although I briefly pursued a position as an Academic Adviser at Lone Star College, I returned to teaching art when South Early College opened its doors at our present location. Beyond the confines of the classroom, my personal artistic focus leans more toward photography than the traditional forms we explore in our academic curriculum. Additionally, I possess a deep fondness for traveling, reading, and frequenting art galleries. I am genuinely excited to accompany you on your artistic and academic journey.
