How do I obtain my Frontline (AESOP) login information?
Please send an email to
SubstituteTeacher@houstonisd.org from your HISD email account containing your name and employee ID number to request Frontline information.
How to create absences in advance?
There are two methods of entering your absences. If you enter your absence over the phone, it can be done up to one month in advance. If you enter the absence online, it can be entered up to one year in advance. Please note that Substitute Teachers cannot be assigned to an assignment no more than 120 days before the assignment start date.
How to cancel an absence?
Frontline will allow you to make changes to an absence if the absence has not started yet and if it is still unfilled by a substitute. You can edit an absence from the "Absence Details" page. To access the "Absence Details" page, click the View Details button for that absence found in the calendar or under the
Scheduled Absences tab. Please click

How do I obtain teacher Frontline access?
Frontline automatically provides access to teachers that are active in the HISD payroll system. Please send an email to

How do I create a substitute teacher Preferred Sub list?
When setting up your
preferred substitutes list, you’ll see a small heart icon next to each name. While you’re able to add any number of substitutes to your preference list, Frontline allows you to rank five substitutes on that list to receive advanced notification of your absence. All of the substitutes on your list can log in to see the absence at the same time, but your “favorite five” substitutes will be notified by email and phone that there is an absence available to them. How do I exclude a substitute teacher from my classroom?
If there is a substitute that you never want in your classroom, you will need to add it to your
excluded substitutes list. In your account settings, you will see this tab right below the preferred substitutes list. Simply hit Add Substitutes and find the names you need to exclude. This will prevent them from seeing and selecting jobs for your classroom. If you don’t see this tab in your account settings, you may send an email to

How do I attach notes and assignments to my absence?
With each absence you create, you have the option to upload a single file to that absence. However, you can also have Frontline automatically attach a file to each absence you create within a specified date range. To upload this file, simply navigate to the "Account" tab and click Shared Attachments. Here, you can choose a file from your computer or drag and drop a file for upload. Files that can be uploaded must be in .doc, .docx, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx and must be less than 256 kb in size. Learn more about

How do I leave feedback for a substitute teacher?
If there is a substitute that you would like to leave feedback for, in Frontline you will be prompted to go to the feedback’s tab that will illustrate past absences up to 14 days. Simply click on the Leave Feedback option next to the individual absence. Click
