How do I schedule my fingerprints app?
The Background/Fingerprinting Department is responsible for maintaining background compliance for applicants, employees, volunteers, vendors, and contract HISD charter schools. In addition, the Background/Fingerprinting Department provides onsite fingerprinting for new hires.

How to read the leave bank?
Leave Overview in OneSource, Employee Self Service (ESS) confirms available leave time. Leave Quota balances are as follows:

- SPL Carry Over Prior Year – State Personal Leave carry over prior year account represents hours carried over from previous school year(s).
- SPL Advanced Not Earned – State Personal Leave advanced not earned account represents hours advanced to an employee at the beginning of his/her duty schedule. HISD advances hours at the beginning of an employee’s duty schedule with the intent that the employee will work his/her full duty schedule. Use of unearned hours prior to the end of an employee’s duty schedule will be recaptured at separation.
- SPL Earned – State Personal Leave Earned account represents actual hours earned. HISD advances hours at the beginning of an employee’s duty schedule with the intent that the employee will work his/her full duty schedule. Hours identified in this column are not hours available to use for discretionary leave.
- LPL Carry Over Prior Year – Local Personal Leave carry over prior year account represents hours carried over from previous school year(s).
- LPL Advanced Not Earned – Local Personal Leave advanced not earned account represents the hours advanced to an employee at the beginning of his/her duty schedule. - LPL Earned – Local Personal Leave account represents actual hours earned during the current school year. - Vacation Carry Over Prior Year – Vacation Carry Over Prior Year account represents vacation hours carried over from previous school year(s).
- Vacation Advanced Not Earned – Vacation advanced not earned account represents the amount of vacation time an employee was advanced at the beginning of a duty schedule. HISD advances hours at the beginning of an employee’s duty schedule with the intent that the employee will work his/her full duty schedule. Use of unearned hours prior to the end of an employee’s duty schedule will be recaptured at separation.

How to understand my pay stub?
If you have questions or need to understand deductions on your paycheck, contact Employee Services at 713-556-7400 (Option 3 and then Option 5). This department works directly with Payroll to assist employees.

What is escrow?
Escrow (also shown on your pay advice as "ENP" or "Earned, Not Paid") is the calculated dollar amount deducted from your pay for each paycheck to cover your salary during the summer break. This is available for 10, 10.5, 11, and 11.5 month employees. The escrow deduction is calculated to ensure employees receive the same standard gross amount for each paycheck throughout the year.

How do I change my telephone number or address?
There are a number of methods that you may use to update your address and telephone number:
- Log on to the HISD Portal at www.houstonisd.org under Employee Services and select Change Personal Information**
- Complete an address update form available in the HR lobby
- E-mail the request to the HR Answer Line at hranswerline@houstonisd.org
- Fax the request to Employee Services at 713-556-7384. Please include your name, employee ID number, address, and/or phone number.

How do I change my name?
- Your Social Security Card with your new name is displayed. You must bring an actual Social Security Card, and not a receipt.
- Your state- or government-issued photo identification
- Documents prompting your name change (i.e., marriage license, court order, etc.)
Please note: the Social Security Card and photo identification must display your new name. All documents must be originals or certified copies and must display the same name.
