  • Livongo, the Diabetes Management System, has open slots!

    Livongo has open slots available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Livongo program for HISD is capped at 500 participants. Livongo offers support for diabetes, including unlimited test strips at no cost; the Livongo connected meter that provides real-time tips & uploads readings; and access to health coaches who are certified diabetes educators and may assist with nutrition planning and lifestyle management.

  • First Friday Wellness Series: Gardening for Health

    Mykawa Farms hosted a farmer’s market with a wide assortment of produce for sale. “How to Garden,” a video produced by the district’s Nutrition Services Dept., was screened at the event, and a hydroponic grower was installed in the HMW café.

    Staying active and exercising regularly can help you feel your best. Experts say to get at least two and a half hours of moderate activity a week. But you don’t have to do it all at once. Even 10-minute blocks during the day can help.

    As parents, it’s natural for us to worry about our children. We try our best to help them over life’s hurdles and protect them from the dangers of the world. When the time comes to send them off to school, we trust that we’re leaving them in safe and capable hands. However, certain events are out of our control. Occasionally, a rare act of school violence is committed, shattering that trust and upending our sense of security. It’s important to give our children support as we all work to come to terms with such a devastating event.
