The Magnet Program at Waltrip High School is for zoned and non-zoned students.
Application Steps:
- The application must be completed online through the HISD School of Choice website.

- Click “Apply Now” and follow the steps to fill in demographic information and upload any needed documents.
- Completed applications for 25-26 will be accepted starting 12/10/2024, and they must be submitted no later than 02/12/2025 to be considered in the first round of applicants.
- Lottery results will be sent out on 03/20/2025. The last day to accept a seat offered in Phase 1 is 04/03/2025. Correct Proof of Residence must be provided within 14 calendar days starting 03/20/2025.
- Phase 2 opens on 03/20/2025. Applications in Phase 2 will only be considered depending on space availability.
Eligibility Requirement:
For an application to Waltrip High School's Research and Technology Magnet Program to be considered for the lottery, an applicant must meet the matrix score of 80. An application will not be considered for the lottery unless the matrix score is met. Please click this link to check how the matrix is calculated. If you do not meet the requirements, we are happy to help you with another Waltrip program.
Registration:
We will have a Magnet Signing Night when incoming magnet students can sign contracts and receive enrollment information. Specific date and time will be emailed to incoming magnet students who have accepted a seat and uploaded correct Proof of Residence documents.
