College Readiness Class
Fall 2019 Wrapround Services Department Survey
The electronic survey will be completely anonymous, and the information requested will not identify students, or their families. It will focus on asking each group specific questions as they relate to non-academic needs such as physical, food insecurities, housing, and many other challenges so that our department can work to leverage resources to help support students, their families, and schools, by removing barriers to learning so that students' may thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
The responses will be compiled into a report which will be provided to school leaders, Wraparound Specialists, and other key stakeholders to drive the work which will address the identified needs.
Students will complete the surveys at their campus under the supervision of assigned personnel. Parents should be allowed to visit the campus to complete the survey, or they also have the option of completing it at home or on their phone.
If parents choose not to have their child participate in the survey, they can reach out to the Wraparound Resource Specialist assigned to the campus to complete an Opt-out form.

Early Release Day
7 minute video that the students will need to watch, explaining what the PGPs.
Hi everyone and happy Monday! - Sep 9
12:36-12:40- Ask students if they’ve heard of TED Talks, ask if anyone knows what TED stands for (Technology, Entertainment, Design). Tell them that Mondays in College Readiness class will be called “Motivation Mondays” and we’ll be setting our intentions for the week ahead.
12:40-12:42- You can let students choose a TED Talk to listen to, or choose one for them. I personally enjoy this one on grit and perseverance: https://www.ted.com/talks/angela_lee_duckworth_grit_the_power_of_passion_and_perseverance but feel free to choose others. This is a good list you can show your kids if you want to let them choose, I can vouch for most of these videos: https://breakthroughhomeschooling.com/ted-talks-for-teens/
12:42- 12:45- Distribute the TED talk handout. Go over anything that needs clarification (make sure they know what ethos, pathos, and logos are).
12:45-1:05- Watch the ted talk you’ve chosen. I like to put on the subtitles when possible.
1:05-1:10- Give students 5 minutes to finish filling out the handout.
1:10-1:19- Discuss their impressions of the video! I especially like to hear what students’ questions for the presenter would be and what their piece of constructive criticism is. Collect the sheets once you’re finished. Feel free to use them as a grade in the gradebook by using a check (85), check+ (95), check- (75) system.
Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks again for all the feedback on the College Readiness class. I hope the lesson plans help 😊
The Lesson For- Friday, September 6
Today we are focusing on the importance of TEAMWORK and COMMUNICATION.
12:36-12:40: Tell the students that today we are going to go a “Kinesthetic” activity to learn about teamwork and communication. They are going to be playing the game “Tangle/Human Knot”. Show this short video for your “Visual” learners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbCPau5YL0g
12:40-12:42: Divide students into groups of 8-10. Have them number off, it’s more fun if they’re with people they don’t know. Direct them to form a circle facing inward. Students will hold their arms straight out from their chest, cross them in an X, and grab hands of two different people across the circle from them (cannot grab hands with anyone next to them).
12:42-12:48: the first round is a silent round and they have 4 minutes to try and unknot themselves WITHOUT TALKING. Start a timer.
