What medical conditions qualify for benefits?

Your absences must be the result of a catastrophic illness or condition, defined as a temporary disability which prevents the employee from performing their assigned regular material duties for seven (7) or more consecutive work days due to sickness, surgery, injury, or pregnancy complications,  and whose severity requires the ongoing services of a licensed medical practitioner.
Additionally, certain procedures, such as elective cosmetic surgery, are not eligible for coverage under the SSLB. Furthermore, pregnancies without serious complications or extended hospital stays are not eligible. Please note, these conditions may qualify for coverage under other programs such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). However, approval for one program does not guarantee approval for another. Members may qualify for SSLB but not FMLA, and vice versa. Employees with questions about the FMLA program should contact their Human Resources Business Partner.
