• 2023-2024 Harvard ES DRESS CODE

    Harvard Families,

It has been brought to my attention that some of you believe there was not clear nor timely communication on the changes made to our dress code policy. As a parent myself, I understand your frustration, and I apologize for these updates not being more clear to you as well as sooner. Your voices have been heard, and I want to take a moment to clear up any confusion.

If you are not aware of the dress code changes, please see below:

    Shirts:

    Monday-Wednesday: any solid colored polo

Thursday: College or Harvard spirit shirt or polo

Friday: Harvard spirit shirt or polo

    Bottoms:

Monday-Thursday: uniform bottoms (khaki, black, or navy)

    Friday: jeans

Although these changes will remain in our handbook and on our website, and I would appreciate your support with encouraging your students to begin following the new dress code, students will be allowed to wear their Harvard spirit shirts any day of the week for this school year.

One of the reasons for the changes being made was that students were becoming very relaxed with their bottoms and wearing leggings and athletic shorts with their Harvard shirts.

For the 2022-23 school year, we are relaxing the dress code policy for students to wear a Harvard spirit shirt any day of the week, however, students must adhere to the dress code policy pertaining to their uniform bottoms. Navy blue, black, or khaki uniform pants, skirt, skorts, or knee-length shorts MUST be worn Monday-Thursday. Jeans will be allowed on Fridays only. Leggings may only be worn with proper uniform bottoms over them. Hats are not allowed.

If you need financial assistance with uniforms, please reach out to our wraparound specialist, Ms. Audrey Sanchez (audrey.warren@houstonisd.org).

We are all so grateful for our wonderful, dedicated Harvard PTA, and I understand that the funds raised from t-shirt sales are one of the ways they are able to support some of our enrichment programs for our students. Therefore, I look forward to collaborating with our PTA on designing some Harvard polos for our students to wear in addition to the spirit shirts.

Again, my sincere apologies for the untimely communication regarding changes in our dress code policy. My focus as the principal of Harvard is the instruction and your children receiving a well-rounded education. I look forward to a great year full of learning experiences your children will remember for years to come! See you Monday!
