• Garden Oaks Montessori is a school in the Houston Independent School District. The campus offers a magnet program that combines education in the Montessori tradition with a focus on environmental sciences, serving students in grades PreK-8.

The campus which was founded in the 1940s originally housed a non-magnet public school, but in 1994, with assistance from the Friends of Montessori Foundation and a grant from HISD, it was converted to a public Montessori school that now services a diverse population of about 800 students.

Nestled in its namesake community, Garden Oaks, the mostly outdoor campus was designed to foster students' awareness and care of the environment. The pond and outdoor classroom, butterfly garden, meteorology center, student-maintained gardens, and chicken coop are just a few aspects of the campus that enrich students' environmental learning experiences.
