The 2022–2023 Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement Survey will be open from Monday May 1, 2023 through Friday May 19, 2023. The purpose of this survey is to obtain parents’, guardians’, and adult family members’ perceptions about how well schools are involving them in the educational activities related to their children.
Houston ISD is in the process of collecting feedback on the Code of Student Conduct. The survey should only take 5 minutes to complete.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires each State education agency to prepare and publish an annual report card with state-, district- and campus-level data.
Houston Independent School District’s School Choice application is now open. Families can apply by visiting the above link to apply. Phase I runs Dec. 14, 2022, through Feb. 2, 2023. Families will learn the lottery result the week of April 5, 2023. New to School Choice this year, out-of-district applicants can apply during the Phase I application. It is important to note that out-of-district applicants will only be considered for seats after all in-district applicants have been accommodated.
Student Attendance Policy: HISD students must attend 90% of school days for promotion to the next grade level. More information along with an informative video can be found on www.houstonisd.org. Students need to be present all day, every day unless they are sick. School hours are from 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. All appointments need to be scheduled after 3 p.m. Students that arrive late miss important instruction. They may struggle trying to keep up with assignments because they missed the introduction or follow-up to lessons. Students that leave early miss end of day instruction that may affect assignments to be completed at home. Students that do not meet the HISD attendance policy may be retained or placed in the next grade level – pending Grade Placement Committee (GPC) decision. The GPC meets in early May to review individual cases.
Red ES has organized back-to-school lists for students of all ages so your kids can make the most out of this academic year. Whether your students are starting preschool or making their way to 5th Grade, we have you covered with the essentials and extra items to be prepared this school year.
