Steven Shetzer, Ed.D, Principal

  •
Dr. Shetzer Welcome to Pershing Middle School. My name is Dr. Steven Shetzer and I am proud to be the principal of this school. Pershing Middle School has a long-standing reputation as a high-performing school with a focus on rigorous academics and is one of HISD’s Fine Arts Magnet Schools.

I am originally from Southern California, but moved to Houston to be closer to family. I started my teaching career as a high school social studies teacher at Westbury High School. I taught everything from World Geography to Advanced Placement U.S. History, Government, and Psychology. In 2011 I decided to take the leap to school administration and became a Magnet Coordinator and then Assistant Principal at Roberts Elementary School. In 2012 I became the Principal of Kolter Elementary and remained there until moving to Pershing in May of 2016.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from California Baptist University. I attended the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) where I received my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction – Secondary Education and my Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction – Teaching. My dissertation studied the relationship between professional learning communities and teacher efficacy in an urban high school.

I am truly honored to be serving as your principal, and I look forward to working with all of the stakeholders in this great community. Please feel free to reach out to me via email: sshetzer@houstonisd.org.
