The When I Grow Up Career Expo is not your typical career fair, yet it offers an exciting modern twist for students of all ages, with hands-on experiences, student competitions, industry speakers and great food, all related to our local labor market career demands.

The goal of the event is to expose students to the wide variety of careers in our region that they may not typically know about. As early as elementary we seek to provide career awareness activities to students while students in middle and high school can learn how to get to the next phase of their future career pathway.

Historically this event has drawn thousands of attendees from all over Houston. The entire student body of HISD and their families are invited each year. Attendees have the opportunity to learn from exhibitors as well as their peers competing in various competition including construction, engineering, culinary, arts/av and cosmetology. Live interactive displays covered a wide variety of high growth, high demand career fields.
