WELCOME TO HISD CAREER READINESS
The HISD Career Readiness Department is under the division of College and Career Readiness, and is committed to providing rigorous, relevant, hands-on career opportunities to all HISD students, working closely with campuses and district departments to create and maintain a college and career culture throughout the district. Starting in elementary school, students and parents are highly encouraged to take charge of their learning, connect with others about industry-based certifications, post-secondary educational opportunities, and dive into preparing for a career.
CTE MONTH
Every February, Houston ISD celebrates CTE Month to raise awareness of the role that Career and Technical Education (CTE) has in readying our students for careers and college, and helping our nation achieve economic success and workforce competitiveness. CTE Month is also a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of our CTE partners. Our kickoff celebration will “highlight” the Business, Marketing, and Finance Cluster, and share the various occupations aligned to this cluster.
During the month, graduating seniors can also explore career opportunities with industry partners in the Gulf Coast Region, expand their knowledge of careers in the military and aviation industry, and engage with business leaders to hear about out-of-the box careers that will help them earn more. Story Time
Welcome to Story Time sessions designed for elementary scholars to expand their knowledge of careers. Please join us for the following scheduled sessions for CTE Month.
The Four Money Bears teach kids the four basic functions of money. Spender Bear, Saver Bear, Investor Bear, and Giver Bear can each do good and bad things with their money. When they work together, they learn to build a budget and teach each other how to better manage their money. The Four Money Bears and their friends share their stories and give kids fun financial tips. They come together in their forest home to teach everyone money management skills. These skills serve as building blocks for strong financial literacy and expose young children to healthy financial habits. Parents can also help kids create their own budget for every month of the year at the end of the story!
