    T. H. Rogers Spelling Bee

Information including a sign-up link and how to obtain the study words will be posted on this page and in the Ram News in mid-October. We hold an Elementary written preliminary spelling bee and a Middle School written preliminary spelling bee in November. The top twenty-four scores on each written test will advance to the Elementary school spelling bee and Middle School spelling bee in December. We will have an elementary champion and a middle school champion who will both advance to the district competition.

Although we have a spelling bee for each level of our school, it is important to note that the words for both spelling bees are the same. The spelling bee list for all spellers includes words up to eighth-grade level and words from the dictionary (not on the list) may be asked as well. Students can get a copy of the School Spelling Bee Study List in the library.

If your child qualifies for the school spelling bee in December, they should continue to study the 450-word study list. The school bee will consist of words selected from that list and when the study list words are exhausted, words selected from the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary will be used. All of the words used at the spelling bee are chosen by the Scripps National Spelling Bee. We follow the rules of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
