    Elementary UIL Academics

    General Information

UIL Elementary Academics is a series of academic and speaking contests designed to allow students to showcase their talents outside the classroom!  Visit the HISD UIL Academics website to learn more!

    Joining a Team

TH Rogers 2nd – 5th graders in good academic and behavioral standing are eligible to participate on a UIL team.

    Competition Areas by Grade Level

Entry info regarding eligible competitions for each grade level is handled completely in school. Interested participants must be in good academic and behavioral standing to qualify for a team.  There are specific entry limits for each contest, and each coach will determine the route to qualification for their team.

Coach Information and Team Practice Schedules

Our classroom teachers will serve as coaches for our UIL teams.  There will be opportunities for parent volunteers to work with teachers to co-coach teams or serve as team parents. Practices will be determined by each coach as appropriate to the contest preparation needs.  Students will be expected to study and prepare independently as well.

    Parent Volunteer Opportunities

All participating schools are required to provide parent volunteers to serve as Test Proctors, Graders, and/or Speech Judges on competition days.  Having several volunteers throughout the contest day will make the competition run more smoothly and end on time. If your student is competing, please plan to volunteer a few hours of your time on each contest date. In addition, each of teams will need at least one team parent to aid in team communications, snacks/treats/games for competitions days, back-up travel help, and specific team support, as asked by the coaches.
