Bird Study Club
This is a group dedicated to birds.
Take notice of the many beautiful flying creatures that live all around us. On the grounds of our school campus are hawks and falcons, woodpeckers, thrushes, vireos, tanagers, warblers, and many other bird species.
Learn to hear and see birds, then identify them by their shapes and sizes, by their colors and habitat, and by their songs and cries. Become a citizen-scientist by recording your sightings so that ornithologists can understand trends in bird populations and migrations. Learn about the importance of birds to the health of our ecosystems.
Let birds lead you into wonderful, mysterious places as you explore the world. Prepare to be amazed.

NJHS
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society
NJHS is one of the oldest and most respected student recognition organizations in the United States. Membership in NJHS distinguishes students who have committed themselves to the pursuit of academic excellence, community improvement, and personal development.
More Than an Honor Roll
Academic achievement is a core component of NJHS, but today’s students need much more than just good grades to get ahead. NJHS’s focus on service, leadership, and character helps students build the skills and relationships that will ensure success throughout their academic years and beyond. When NJHS members participate in community service projects, attend national leadership events, and serve as ambassadors to their schools and communities, they:
Begin networking with other accomplished student leaders who are focused on personal growth and building a solid foundation for their future endeavors
Build a portfolio of life achievements that can be featured on applications for colleges and careers, as well as cover letters and resumes
Learn how to be a more effective leader, and why leadership skills are an essential tool at any stage of life.
What do you do in NJHS?
The goal of NJHS is to build leaders and engage in service. Moreover, the activities are up to the NJHS members. In the past, we have volunteered at the Chevron Houston Marathon offering water at a hydration station to marathon participants. NJHS members also serve in various capacities on campus at Hamilton. Each student will also select their own service projects each nine weeks that best reflect their individual personal interests.

If I'm a 6th grader, what can I do to become a better candidate for NJHS in 7th and 8th grade?
One of the best things you can do as a 6th grader is to have really strong grades and be well-behaved in all your classes. You should work hard every day in school because as a 7th grade inductee, you will qualify in the area of scholarship based on your grades in 6th grade. Also, becoming involved in school clubs and activities, following all school rules and being a great role model for other students will give you strong teacher recommendations. In addition, outside of school, you can begin to track community service hours (work in which you don't receive some kind of pay) in order to strengthen your information sheet.
Who is eligible for NJHS?
At Hamilton MS, in accordance with national standards set by NJHS, students will first qualify for an invitation through their demonstration of success in the area of scholarship and behavior. That means, students in 7th grade and 8th Grade with all A’s and B’s will receive an invitation to fill out an application. Students will then fill out the informational form to give examples of their accomplishments in the remaining areas of Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Students must submit a completed application packet by the due date. Therefore, just because a student qualifies does not mean they will automatically be inducted into the NJHS.
