For the past twenty-eight years, my work in the classroom has been driven by a passion for helping students become the strongest readers, writers, and thinkers they can be. The heartbeat of the classroom is my students’ creativity and individuality. My belief in every student’s ability to accomplish amazing things is unwavering.

Outside the classroom, I am a dog dad to three Australian Shepherds, a maker of homemade ice cream, a gardener, a reader, an opponent of book bans, a genealogist, and a follower of the arts. Family and friends will tell you that my cherry dark chocolate chip, pumpkin cake, and blueberry lemon are the most-loved of my ice cream flavors.

I grew up in a neighborhood near Spring, Texas, have lived in the Houston area for most of my life.  As an undergraduate, I studied Theology and English/Creative Writing at the University of St. Thomas. I went on to earn my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Houston and have been a teacher in Houston ISD ever since.  A fun fact about me is that for a portion of my time as an undergraduate, I lived at 1505 Taft Street, which would later become part of the Carnegie Vanguard High School campus.
