While you read, look for examples of how each text connects to the specific theme of your bundle. You will be asked to do a project that connects all of the texts you read during the first weeks of school. Your first lesson in English I: Try to understand the texts on your own FIRST! There are many website out there that will help you understand the books, stories, and poems you read, and they are great aids. I have no problem with you using them. But try for yourself, first! Make a game out of it-- write your own ideas down and then see if you can find anyone else who agrees.

I also recommend marking or writing down any quotes that really stand out to you in terms of the theme from your bundle (this goes for the novel, too). If you do that, your project in the fall will be REALLY easy! : )

Have a great summer, and I look forward to meeting you all. Please feel free to email me at janedoe@alumni.rice.edu with any questions or just to say hi and tell me about yourself!
