    School Counseling and Guidance Program Services

    Guidance Lessons

    Counselors deliver guidance lessons that address student needs related to social/emotional development, academic success, and college/career readiness. Character lessons promote a nurturing school environment and support school-wide student success.

    Peer Mediation

    Students are trained as “peer mediators” to handle conflict peacefully and assertively.

    Individual Counseling

    The school counselor assists students who experience difficulties which can negatively impact learning, such as social interactions, organization skills, personal concerns, and normal developmental tasks.

    Small Groups

    Small groups are organized and facilitated in response to student needs. These small groups can address issues related to friendship, transitions, study skills, and more. Currently the 5th frade Executive Group meets once per week to practice organization and time management skills. Coming soon, upper elementary students can participate in Conversation Café, a small lunch group that encourages self-esteem, positive communication, and critical thinking.

    Referrals

    The counselor provides referrals to community agencies for families dealing with violence, mental illness, and other problems that go beyond the scope of services of the school counseling program.

    Consultation

    The counselor consults with parents and colleagues regarding strategies to help students learn at school. The counselor serves as a student advocate.

    IAT

    Counselors play an integral role in facilitating teams of support for students made up of teachers, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders.

     
    Parent Events

    The counseling department hosts parent workshops and informational sessions in response to specific needs in the school community.
