Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Stephanie Chen

Hailing from Northern Virginia, Ms. Chen came to Houston for her undergrad at Rice University where she double majored with a B.A. in Pure Mathematics and Psychology while also obtaining her teaching certificate for grades 8-12 in Texas. During her college years, Ms. Chen worked in a variety of tutoring and teaching positions from individualized tutoring in academic subjects and SAT to classroom teaching for the SAT.

She started teaching at Carnegie Vanguard High School in 2010 right after graduation. After three years of teaching, Ms. Chen returned to school to get a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Her goal for doing so was to offer a new Engineering based math course for Carnegie students open to any students who had at least taken Precal BC or Calculus AB.

As a young girl in middle school, Ms. Chen decided that she wanted to be a teacher. She loved math and loved to teach people things; it was just a natural choice.  She has, however, dabbled into other professions, but found that desk jobs were just a bore. Ms. Chen has worked at the Library of Congress for the Department of Defense in the Defense Prisoners of War and Missing Personnel Office and at a Law Office.
