Ms. Sarah Yockey

Ms. Sarah Yockey is the Teacher Specialist at the Houston Academy for International Studies. During her years as an architecture student at the University of Houston, a summer internship as a Teaching Fellow with Breakthrough Houston inspired her to add an English minor and pursue a career in education. She remains fascinated by the intersections of design and learning whether in classroom environments or in the design of curriculum or even schoolwide systems!

Ms. Yockey previously taught English and Capstone courses at Chinquapin Preparatory School where she was also the dorm mom for 40 middle school and high school girls and the Middle School Dean! Ms. Yockey completed a masters degree in Education Administration and Supervision at the University of Houston and ran a teacher training program before joining the team at HAIS.

Ms. Yockey is a reader with a large personal library full of middle grade novels because she loves introducing new books to students! She also enjoys swimming and coaching girls basketball at HAIS! She is also passionate about being civically involved in your local neighborhood so you can sometimes find her at road project design meetings, park master planning sessions, and local community events.
