HUMANITIES OVERVIEW
The pursuit and knowledge of art in different forms helps all students develop all aspects of their intellect and personality. Studies have shown that students participating in the fine arts do better overall in school. The more well-rounded the student has a better chance they have of being accepted into the college or university of their choice.
The Fine Arts offer Westside students the possibility of developing a 4-year comprehensive program in many of the arts. Some of the programs require that you audition and others are open to anyone interested.
FINE ARTS PROGRAMS
Do you like to create with your hands and eyes?
The Visual Arts include drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography.
Maybe, you like to move around.
Our Dance Programs offer everything from hip hop, modern, drill team, and break dancing, to the nationally acclaimed Inertia Dance Troupe.
Do you like literature, writing and/or putting on a show?
We have both Theatre Production (the acting part) and Technical Theatre (lights, sound effects and set building).
Perhaps you play an instrument or sing.
With several bands, orchestra and choir in our Music Program we have a 4 year program for you!
ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
All of the Fine Arts programs participate in local, state, and national competitions both within UIL and outside of it. Field trips to other productions as well as travel to competition are a great part of the Fine Arts & Computing Sciences program. Our trophy cases are bursting with awards. Our students have been featured in People Magazine, Southern Living, and on The Today Show
