IB Program

Wharton Dual Language Academy is an IB World School for the Primary Years Program (PYP). We received our authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization in June, 2014. The Primary Years Program (PYP) is a curriculum framework for young learners aged 3–12 designed by the International Baccalaureate (IB). Founded on a philosophy that recognizes a child’s natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect, the PYP generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment to nurture those assets and foster a lifelong love of learning in every child. The PYP, like all IB programs, is transdisciplinary, meaning students learn across subject areas while investigating big ideas.
Goberno
The Wharton Elementary Dual Language philosophy promotes both Spanish and English as languages of equal value. We feel that by placing importance on both languages we are not only preparing our students for the multi-lingual, multicultural world we are living in, but they are also learning the importance and value in respecting other cultures in our increasingly global society.

Monday - Friday:
7:45 - School Starts
7:55 - Tardy Bell
3:05 - School Dismissal

Students at Wharton DLA will attend all day on Wednesdays for the 2017-2018 school year. We will follow the HISD District calendar, and there are early dismissal days built into the schedule. This change is based on House Bill 2610, which states students must be in school a certain amount of minutes per school year. HISD Board policy states that we must be in attendance 76,000 minutes (or 440 minutes per day) in order to account for inclement weather days.
