Josh Inocencio is a writer and theatre artist. He is returning to HSPVA after serving as a long-term substitute for the same class in the 2018-19 school year and last year directed a production of Hedda Gabler for HSPVA’s Theatre department. After finishing his Master’s at Florida State University, he returned to Houston to tour his solo play, Purple Eyes, across Texas, which culminated in the world premiere at Stages Repertory Theatre. Last year, he finished writing a trilogy titled Splintered in Three, and two of the plays were semifinalists for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference.
His work has been featured at Stages, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Greenhouse Theatre in Chicago, and Teatro Milagro in Portland, among others. He has also trained under Migdalia Cruz at the Maria Irene Fornés Playwright’s Workshop. Alongside playwriting, he’s written for two publications in the city—OutSmart Magazine and Spectrum South—where he focused on personal narrative, politics, and culture. Prior to HSPVA, Mr. Inocéncio taught college courses at Florida State University, as well as writing workshops at the Alley Theatre, the University of Houston, UT-Rio Grande Valley, and Texas A&M University.
