Principal's Message

rruiz3-1-2016 I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my excitement about being the new principal at Stevenson Middle School. As the new Principal of Stevenson Middle School, it is my sincere pleasure and honor to become a member of this great school community.  I would like to thank Mrs. Zapata-Farmer who has done an exceptional job during her tenure her at Stevenson.  We wish her the best in her future endeavors.  Stevenson holds a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is the result of a collegial partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students.  There are so many great things about the school and community in place.  I know together we can make it even greater for everyone in the community by preparing our students to become even more productive and cultivating citizens.

I know there is no better district to work for; I say that and believe that as a proud product of the Houston Independent School District myself.  I attended Southmayed Elementary, Deady Middle School, and graduated from Milby High School. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to give back to the community that opened the doors for me. I have been dedicated to the field of education for over fifteen years. During this time, my experience has been an elementary and middle school classroom teacher at Jaime Davila Elementary and Deady Middle School.   After teaching, I was granted the opportunity to spread my passion for instruction by being an instructional coordinator at Lewis Elementary, math specialist for the East Region Office and most recently an assistant principal at Ortiz Middle School.

As an advocate for all students, it is my duty to ensure that our students will excel at all levels. Stevenson will not leave any student behind. This atmosphere will focus on the highest potential of each student and will foster an enthusiasm for life-long learners. In order to accomplish this, all parents, teachers, support staff, stake holders and administration must collaborate and encourage our children to become active learners.

I look forward to meeting you and a successful partnership as the leader of Stevenson Middle School Dragons!

Sincerely,

Ruth Ruiz
