• Inexperienced- 1½-2-minute excerpt of a prepared piece. Please be sure to bring a hard copy for the director to follow along. If no experience, discussion with director about goals and/or which instrument they have interest in learning.

• Experienced- Students with experience in violin, guitar, vihuela, guitarron, harp, or trumpet will be required to play a 1½-2-minute excerpt of a prepared piece/song (doesn’t have to be mariachi). Please be sure to bring a hard copy for the director to follow along. Violin, trumpet, and harp will also have to play 2 scales of their choice. After playing the song of their choice, students will be required to sight read a piece, chosen by the director. Sight reading will not affect whether the student gets into the program, but it will determine the level they are placed at. Finally, there will be a short interview.

*Students must provide their own instrument during the audition. We recommend asking your Middle School or local instrumental rental location to borrow an instrument.
