    Dear MIMS Family,

I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve as school counselor for the 2022-2023 school year. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Hsiao-Yun Liu. The students refer to me as Ms. Liu. My colleagues and MIMS parents call me Alice. I started working at MIMs in 2012, the year the school opened. I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 years as a classroom teacher.

In my new role as school counselor, I will support the MIMs students in a mental and emotional capacity. I have always been passionate and drawn to the mental and emotional well-being of students. In 2016, I obtained a Master of Education degree in school counseling. The school counseling degree helped me informally mentor and guide children in the classroom setting over the last couple years. Now, I am excited to apply my degree and knowledge in an official school counselor capacity.

A little about me: I have enjoyed many roles in my life; granddaughter, daughter, older sister, wife, mother, pets’ parent, friend, and teacher. I am excited to add counselor to the list. I was born in Taiwan and came to American when I was 7 years old. When I am not working, I enjoy creating miniature homes/stores, reading children’s book and studying spiritual books. Mostly I like to connect with people and learn more about myself and others. The best way to help others is when you truly understand who you are.

A little about 2022-2023 counseling projection: Throughout the 2022-2023 school year I will focus on the emotional, social, and mental well-being of the students. Some areas of interest are the bridging the generational gap between parents, teachers, and students, enhancing student self-image, improving social skills, and providing students with skills to cope with social, mental, and emotional issues. There is also a Thinkery room where students can go deescalate or calm down to their centered self. We will conduct a Need survey at beginning and end of each school year to analyze Pre-K – 8th grade students’ emotional, mental, and social needs.

Parents are the children’s first teacher, and I am look forward to hosting family nights where we can discuss holistic strategies to assist the students.

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

    Sincerely, H. Liu
