Vaughn Belcher holds a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in theatre Arts, from Prairie View A&M University, and is currently in his last year of a Masters of Arts program as a current student at University of Houston. Before his venture into the realm of education, Vaughn Belcher sharpened his skills while living in New York City as an actor, youth program coordinator, and a performance art director.
Vaughn Belcher started his career in education as a theatre director at the former Dowling Middle school, which is currently the Audrey Lawson Middle School (Houston ISD), where he would serve for three years. He then became an assistant theatre director at North Shore Senior High School (Galena-Park ISD) for 10 years, and served as the lead director at Brian Adams High school (Dallas ISD) for the 2022-23 school year. Mr. Belcher is now permanently back home, as the theatre Director of Jack Yates High School .
Mr. Belcher has achieved many accomplishments throughout the span of his career thus far, that consist of, but not limited to the following:
- Advancing to Regionals One Act Play ( Galena Park ISD)
- Thespian Troupe National Qualifiers ( Galena Park ISD)
- Best Set Design “Dream Girls” (Tommy Tune Awards)
- Best musical nominee “Dream Girls” (Tommy Tune Awards)
- Thespian Troupe National Qualifiers ( Dallas ISD)
- Advancing to Area One Act Play ( Dallas ISD)
Mr. Belcher's overall goal is to create a unique experience for students to engage in and create theatre in its purest form: relevant, challenging, and innovative. As a theatre educator, he is devoted to providing a high-quality teaching environment of wonder and rigor, empowering each student with the “I Am Enough!” philosophy. Essentially, producing well articulate and productive people.
