Audition Requirements.
Beginning students need no prior knowledge. The audition will be a class lesson to determine a student’s musical aptitude. This will involve all students and parents are welcome to attend and observe.
Students wishing to enter an upper level orchestra should prepare:
- A short solo (approx. 1 ½ - 2 minutes)
- 1 or 2 scales of their choice. Advanced students should play scales in 2-3 octaves.
- Students might be asked to demonstrate their sight reading ability. This will be equivalent to a UIL level 1 (easiest) sight reading test. This will not be used to determine acceptance into the program, but simply to identify a student's ability.
Rubric:
- Prepared Piece = 100 points
- Posture/Technique = 100 points
- Scales = 50 points
- Musicality = 50 points
Total = 300 points
