I am thrilled to be serving as the new Director of Choirs at Pershing Middle School! This is my eighth year as a public educator, and the only thing I love more than making music myself is teaching it to others. I believe we are in store for an exciting and fulfilling year, and I can't wait to get started! In the meantime, please visit our official website at www.pershingchoir.com to receive updates throughout the summer. See you in August!

    Women’s Chorale

Women's Chorale is the premiere treble ensemble at Pershing and consists of seventh and eighth grade singers (magnet and non-magnet) who audition in the spring of the previous school year. Members of Women’s Chorale are strong singers, confident sight readers, and experienced ensemble members who represent the Pershing Choral Department at the annual UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest in the spring. It is imperative that members remain academically eligible for various festivals and trips; therefore, grades are checked every three weeks throughout the year. All members will take a sight-reading test at the end of each semester.

    Men’s Chorale

Men’s Chorale is the premiere tenor/bass ensemble at Pershing and consists of seventh and eighth grade singers (magnet and non-magnet) who audition in the spring of the previous school year. Members of Men’s Chorale are strong singers, confident sight readers, and experienced ensemble members who represent the Pershing Choral Department at the annual UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest in the spring. Men’s Chorale singers also spend a great deal of time learning to healthily navigate the changing voice. It is imperative that members remain academically eligible for various festivals and trips; therefore, grades are checked every three weeks throughout the year. All members will take a sight-reading test at the end of each semester.

    Bella Voce

Bella Voce is open to all seventh and eighth grade girls who wish to continue their musical pursuits beyond the sixth grade or perhaps have no prior singing experience. In Bella Voce, we will work to strengthen our sight reading skills and overall understanding of music theory. Solid intonation, rhythmic accuracy, and emotive interpretation of musical selections will be the focal points for the year. Seventh grade members of Bella Voce have the opportunity to audition for Women's Chorale at the end of the spring semester. Those who do not make Chorale are encouraged to continue lending their gifts in Bella. All members will take a sight-reading test at the end of each semester.

    Cantare (sixth grade boys)

Cantare (which literally means "to sing" in Italian) is available to all sixth grade boys. In addition to perfecting the fundamental skills of good singing, through various exercises, we will learn how to breathe, when to breathe, and how to interpret the director's cues. We will spend time each day learning to identify basic musical notation and then apply those skills as we sing and learn new music throughout the year. We will also explore healthy placement of the voice and singing in two-part harmony. All Cantare members will take a sight-reading test at the end of each semester.
