Within 60 days of your spouse or dependent child gaining or losing eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid, contact the HISD Benefits Service Center to update your coverage. Call 877-780-HISD (4473), choose a language and then press 1 to get started. The Service Center is available weekdays (except holidays), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.
Note: The benefits effective date will be determined based on the date provided on the benefits coverage term letter used to verify your life event. Please contact the Benefits Office if you have questions regarding your benefits effective date.

If you want to save money on dental care, there's also the Discount Dental plan. It's not insurance, so there aren't any free exams or cleanings. You'll simply pay as you go for care, with a discount if you see an in-network dentist. -

You can only add your spouse or dependents if you are currently enrolled in benefits. Your changes usually take effect the first day of the month after you notify the HISD Benefits Office. Confirm with the HISD Benefits Service Center about the date(s) your coverage changes become effective. -
HIPP
Within 60 days of you or your dependent gaining or losing eligibility for the state’s premium assistance program under the Texas Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP), contact the HISD Benefits Service Center to update your coverage. Call 877-780-HISD (4473), choose a language and then press 1 to get started. The Service Center is available weekdays (except holidays), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.
If you or your dependent becomes eligible for HIPP coverage, you can be reimbursed each month for premiums paid through your HISD payroll deductions.
If you or your dependent loses HIPP eligibility, you can stay enrolled in HISD’s medical plan as long as you continue your payroll deductions, or you can drop your coverage. -
CHIP
If your dependent child loses eligibility under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and you pay the premiums, you can add your child to your HISD health plan. Within 60 days of your child’s eligibility change, contact the HISD Benefits Service Center to update your coverage. Call 877-780-HISD (4473), choose a language and then press 1 to get started. The Service Center is available weekdays (except holidays), 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.
If your child gains eligibility under the CHIP program, you can’t make changes to your benefits until the next annual enrollment period.
