NAMING/CHANGING/BENEFICIARIES

You need to designate a beneficiary for each basic and supplemental life insurance policy you have—beneficiaries do not automatically carry over from one policy to another.

  • You can update your beneficiaries at any time and for any reason by calling the HISD Benefits Service Center at 1-877-780-HISD (4473) or by going online to the Benefits Service Center and clicking on Manage Information. By using Manage Information, your changes will be effective immediately once they are saved and submitted. To make a beneficiary change, click here. If you make beneficiary changes during annual enrollment or with a life event, those changes will be effective January 1 of the new plan year or the effective date of the life event.

    In addition to updating your beneficiaries with the HISD Benefits Service Center, you need to designate beneficiaries for your active member death and retirement benefits with TRS by calling them at 1-800-223-8778. These TRS benefits are completely separate from your HISD benefits.
