Bellaire Theatre and Red Bird Productions (aka "RBP") are preparing for auditions for the 2023-2024 school year!
The Theatre Department continues to create opportunities for students interested in the Theatre Arts. Courses offer a general background in theatre both as a performance and technical art.

In the Red Bird Production Company (RBP) the students will take on the many responsibilities of theatre productions. Students will act or work on a crew for at least one performance in the fall and one in the spring. Technical theatre students will learn hands on about the varied theatre arts of set design, lighting, sound, costumes, and makeup. Students in this class will support the productions produced by the Red Bird Production Company.

2023-2024 Audition Information:
Auditions and Technical Theatre Interviews for acceptance into the Intermediate/Advanced Technical Theatre Classes, JV Theatre Production Company Class, or the Varsity Theatre Production Company Class will take place on May 15, 16, and 17, 2023 after school (for incoming freshmen and for students not currently placed in a production or tech company class). Current students will have the option to audition in 7th period in addition to after school on the dates listed.

Texas Thespians!We will be taking a trip in late November to Grapevine, Texas to participate in the Texas Thespian convention. Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and compete, in various theatrical events. Check back here for more information. The Bellaire High School Theatre Department has accumulated numerous achievements in UIL competitions, including the UIL one-act play 5A state championship, numerous regional, and area wins. Countless Best Actor and Supporting Actor awards, including the Samuel French Best Actor award at the state UIL one-act play competition, the highest award in high school theatre in Texas, won by John Bass. The theatre department has also been nominated for Best Musical, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor in the high school musical Tommy Tune Awards. Josh Brenner did receive the Tommy Tune Best Actor award. Students routinely receive scholarships to the University of Texas, Boston University, New York University, University of Southern California, and Northwestern University, to name a few. Graduates of the theatre program currently are appearing on Broadway, off-Broadway, in film and television, as actors, agents, and executives. We offer several levels of theatre classes including beginning theatre, if you’d just like to try out acting, theatre production, where students work on black box and main stage shows, and technical theatre, where students work on lighting, costume, and scenic design.
