Students in grades six, seven, and eight will take separate grade-level Magnet classes devoted to the study of and writing of short fiction, poetry (lyric/free verse), essays (narrative/personal), and one-act plays. Mentor texts in each genre will be closely read to help us as writers. Students will present their manuscripts to their classmates and instructor “in workshop” for discussion and subsequent revision. Students will be able to submit their work to magazines such as Teen Ink, Stone Soup, and Canvas Teen Literary Journal. They will also have the opportunity to read their work before a live audience.
