Welcome to the Meyerland Performing & Visual Arts Middle School band program! The MPVA band program is made up of classes with varying degree of skill and ability: Beginning Band, Woodwind & Brass Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Honors Band.

In the beginning year, the emphasis in band is on learning the fundamentals of music and the basic skills required to play an instrument correctly.  Mastery of these skills leads to further development of a more advanced skill set which will allow students to progress smoothly into a performing ensemble.  Beginning band is for students who have not previously played or have not mastered the fundamentals of their specific instrument only and requires only three or four rehearsals outside the school day.  These classes meet every other school day in instrument specific groups.

In our performing bands, students continue into a performance based band class that provide a more challenging and enriching learning environment for the advancing performer.  These classes meet in full band rehearsals, every other day, during the school day and once a week in small group rehearsals called section practices or sectionals and perform regular concerts throughout the school year.

Band is a new and meaningful experience for parents as well as students, and everyone's involvement is essential and welcome. Band students develop self-discipline, social skills, confidence, leadership and dependability. Being in band will give each student a sense of accomplishment and pride, and students will develop musical skills that will enrich their lives!
