Choral Music Audition Information

  • Choir: MPVA Magnet Audition Requirements 

    1. Interview 

    • The student needs to introduce themselves, telling us their name, what school they currently attend, what grade they're in, if they have any singing experience, and why they want to join MPVA choir. 
    2. Vocal 
    • A simple warm-up of ascending and descending patterns on "Ah" and "Ooh" vowels .
    3. Prepared Piece 
    • The student will perform a 45-second excerpt of one of the following pieces in any key they prefer: "My Country tis of Thee", "America the Beautiful", or "Amazing Grace". 
    • The student will also perform a 45 second excerpt of one their favorite songs in any genre with an accompaniment track played on their phone or Bluetooth. 
    4. Pitch Matching 
    • Multiple sets of 3 note patterns will be played. The student will sing them back on a "doo" vowel in order to test pitch matching. The patterns will start off simple and get progressively more challenging. 
    Additionally, the following will be required: 
    1. Students must be dressed appropriately during the audition process (Casual Dress is acceptable). 
    2. Students must be on time and ready to sing! 

     

    Rubric:

    Pitch Matching-200 Points

    Tone-50 Points

    Musicality-50 Points
