  •

    Audition Requirements:

The online audition for broadcast journalism is a portfolio of the student’s best, original work. Your samples of your best writing can either be typed or nicely written in your best handwriting. Please submit all writing samples to vedward@houstonisd.org.

    Portfolio Requirements

    • Writing Sample 1 (required)
      • A short essay (maximum of 150 words) which addresses student’s interest in the broadcast journalism program. Students should: Describe him/herself as a writer, indicate which type of writing he/she prefers ( poetry, fiction, journalistic writing, writing for fun), explain what he/she hopes to gain through choosing this class, elaborate on what he/she hopes to learn from the program, and describe what he/she has to offer as a student ( skills/strengths/awards). Essay can be creative in nature but should clearly address these questions.
    • Writing Sample 2
      • This sample can be of any topic. Work that has been previously graded may be submitted for consideration. There is no specific required length. Quality over quantity is valued.

    Audition Scoring

All writing samples will be scored based on the rubric attached. A portfolio that contains plagiarized work will not be considered.
