Special education member policy
At the February 14, 2019, board meeting, the following language was added to local board policy BQB indicating that principals are responsible for ensuring that every campus' SDMC membership include a special education representative:
"If no special education professional staff member is among the two-thirds classroom teachers, or one-third other professional staff elected to serve on the SDMC, the principal is responsible for ensuring that a special education representative is appointed as a nonvoting member of the committee.
Mr. Samuel Nwankwoala will serve as a non voting member of SDMC
Smart snack policy
Coordinated by the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service, the Community Eligibility Provision allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve students meals at no cost without collecting free and reduced-price meal applications. Schools are eligible if they have a certain percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced meals based on their participation in federal assistance programs.
In HISD, where 75 percent of our students are considered to be low income, all of our schools qualify for this program. Despite this, many of our schools continue to sell fast food, snacks, candy, and other items that do not meet federal Smart Snacks standards.

However, we are currently 30% under. Additionally, for admissions, the ECHS shall use either a performance-blind, open-access lottery system that encourages and considers applications from all students (all students have an equal opportunity for acceptance, regardless of background or academic performance)
