Role of SDMC
- An SDMC shall be established at each school to:
- Assist the Principal
- Advise the Principal
- The SDMC is exclusively an advisory role
- Approve staff development of a campus nature.
- The Principal has the final authority in fiduciary and financial decisions. The principal will be held accountable for compliance with all laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Responsibilities of SDMC
- History: The Houston Independent School District Board of Education established and approved the campus-level planning and decision making process in 1992. The process includes the creation and maintenance of a Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC) at each school to review goals, objectives, and programs.
- Reviewing and making recommendations regarding the school’s organizational structure
- Establishing procedures to periodically obtain broad based community, parent and staff input
Update on SDMC members
Mr. Nwankwoala is attending and SDMC meeting for the first time. Mr. Speier will be replacing Ms. Orozco beginning our next SDMC Meeting.
Staffing update
Last SDMC Meeting we introduced Mr. Nwankwoala and Ms. Galindo as our newest staff members. Next year, we are excited to welcome Mr. Stear for Principles of Applied Engineering and Mr. Marquina for English I. Ms. Steinmeyer will not be returning next year. Mr. Stear is not replacing anyone, we are growing our CTE program.
Student Survey
- We will ask students to complete end of year survey.
- How do students considered they were prepared for the AP exam?
- Did they receive optimal guidance for the test?
- Advocacy lessons and topics should we deliver during advocacy?
- Dress code: What is important to you when it comes to dress code?
Dress Code
- Closed heel and toe
- No midriffs
- No holes or rips at all
- No sleeveless
- No shorts allowed in science labs/ skirts must be ankle length for science labs (in high school or college) / All jewelry (including piercings) must be removed / no closed heel and toe
- Students must wear school issued lanyard with HISD ID AND HCC ID
- Presentations: Students are required to dress up for presentations
- Offensive images and text not permitted
- Students must bring school issued laptop every day
Rankings update
At the end of the 2017-2018 school year we moved up in Children At Risk ranking from 11 to 6. We are waiting on new rankings to come out.
U.S. News new rankings have just been released. We have moved from 53 up to 30 in the state.
Programming Change update
We have increased number of students enrolled in CTE classes and will double next year as we open six sections of Robotics and two sections of Principles of Technology
Submitting Agenda Items for future meetings
- Review board policy can final exam . Can final exam be administered before AP question?
- Follow up: Final exams must be administered when scheduled unless there is a principal approved extenuating circumstance.
- Is there any way for students to get local credit for advocacy?
