Unit Overview:
The concept of government is explored in this unit. It provides an overview of the Texas and U.S. Constitutions including the principles of democratic government reflected in those documents. The unit also teaches students about the structure and function of our federal system of government and addresses the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democratic society
Learning objectives:
- Define and give examples of the seven principles of government
- Improve expository writing skills: writing essays
- Develop and use critical thinking skills and levels of questioning
- Analyze political cartoons for symbolism and meanings
- Practice active note taking with main ideas and summary skills
- determine the level of application for the principles in today’s government
- decide which principle is vital today
- assume the roles of political parties in the United States
- simulate the election process for political campaigns including debates, ads, editorials, polls, and electoral college system
- develop and evaluate evidence in making an informed decision
