Below you will find details about the boys’ program at Lanier.  The schedule for the season is still being determined and will be posted on the school website in January.

Try-outs:  The following paperwork must be turned in prior to trying out.  If you have submitted paperwork for another sport you don’t need to do it again, you will need to fill out the informational sheet only.

    • HISD Physical Form
    • Parent Approval Form - notarized for 7th graders
    • HISD Athletic Insurance, pay on SchoolPay (see Athletics homepage) OR  Insurance Waiver - must be notarized and the original, no copies

*There will be additional forms required once an athlete makes the team.

The official try-outs will be January 14th (Track) and January 16th (Field) for 8th and January 15th (Track) and January 17th (Field) for 7th:  We will begin at 4:00pm and end at 5:30pm.  All athletes will be timed in a 100m, 400m, and either the 200m or 800m; and be evaluated for potential for their shot put throws, the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Number of Athletes:  There will be approximately 15-20 boys chosen for each the 7th and 8th grade teams.  Membership will be based on your try-out and your ability to contribute to the team.

Practices:  Formal practices will begin on Monday, January 28th, 2019.  Practices will be Mondays- Thursdays from 6:30am- 8:00am with specific events taking place on certain days.  A season calendar of practice dates and times will be handed out to team members at the first practice on January 28th.  If you participate in another sport that overlaps with the season, please see Coach Rhymes and Coach Blair for a modified practice schedule.

Absences from Practices and Meets:  All athletes are expected to be present for every scheduled practice and meet, unless they are personally ill, have a family emergency, or are representing Lanier in another activity.  Coach Rhymes (8th) or Coach Blair (7th) must be informed of these absences in advance - or

Grades:  Team members are expected to remain in good academic standing.  Failure (grade below a 70) in any class at the UIL grade check dates will result in a team member being ineligible for all meets in the next three-week period.  An ineligible athlete will continue to practice while regaining eligibility.  If grades don’t improve an ineligible athlete may be dropped from the team.

Equipment:  Athletes may wear shorts/pants, t-shirt and running shoe of their choosing to practice.  As most of our practices will not be on an official track we will practice in running shoes, if we are able to find a track to occasionally use we will practice in spikes.  A Lanier track uniform, sweats, and spikes to be used at meets will be provided by the school.  You do have the option to purchase your own spikes, but that is not a requirement.
