Thank you for your interest in Bob Lanier Middle School!

Lanier Middle School is one of the most diverse and inclusive campuses in HISD.  We serve students from over 70 different elementary schools across the city, state, country, and world.  Lanier is the only Vanguard Magnet and International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme World School in HISD. We offer a high-quality comprehensive middle school experience, with a focus on core academics, global citizenship, and community service. 

Our International Baccalaureate MYP programme is school wide and incorporated into all areas of study. As part of the IB Middle Years Programme, all Lanier students take eight courses:

• Mathematics
• Science
• Individuals & Societies
• Language & Literature
• Language Acquisition
• Physical and Health Education
• Arts
• Design

These courses allow for student agency and the ability to explore different interests and passions throughout the school day. 

Our Vanguard magnet program serves students who have been identified as potentially gifted or talented in intellectual ability, creativity, or leadership. Approximately two thirds of Lanier students are identified as gifted and talented and participate in our Vanguard program. These students study interdisciplinary units that emphasize higher-level thinking, problem solving, and creativity.
